“Ebola won’t kill us all, but something else might. Like everything living on Earth, viruses must evolve to survive. That is why avian influenza has provoked so much anxiety; it has not yet mutated into an infection that can spread easily. Maybe it never will, but it could happen tomorrow. A pandemic is like an earthquake that we expect but cannot quite predict.”—Michael Specter on Ebola and what may come next: http://nyr.kr/1zD9e65 (via newyorker)
Yup, just this particular time around we have done these preparations:
Eliminated geographical thresholds per airline traffic Weakened our own immune systems by a dependence on pharma and other artificial adjustments of our own biological functions, weakening our own adaptive mutation response Created the ground floor for super bugs to evolve with our help in hospitals for gods sake Have negated or leveled genetical code barriers between species And some
In short have leveled the playing field for any mutant to be super aggressive and fast in dispertion, have induced massive mutations in microbiological life in science and medicine, while made ourselves much more vulnerable……….
And all that in the medical field, not even considering military science and their odd game……..
The medieval plague was a slow mutation of a garden variety soil bacteria, all natural so to speak, now we already have done massive man made impacts on bacteria and viral life and we will be the ones not capable of keeping it up with the next mutation event by our own god damn design of shortsightness.
